A Disturbing Dream

I had a dream last night that left me rather disturbed when I woke up.

I am one of those people who every now and then that has a dream that I am convinced is a "God Dream".

Some dreams I know are just bad pizza before bed...and those are pretty easily discerned. But THIS dream was NOT one of those dreams.

This was one of those "God Dreams". And what left me disturbed is that though I have these dreams, I am not quite the dream interpreter that Joseph was!

Oh, I can give it the old college try. And usually when I start to tell someone about my dream, God may enlighten me a bit about the meaning. But this dream still left me with very disturbed when I woke.

In my dream God brough me before a very HUGE tree. It was mammoth in size and just beautiful to behold. It was lush. What God pointed out to me in the dream was the very intricate root system of this tree. Not only could I see some of the roots that had made their way above the soil surface and shot out from the tree about 15 feet on either side, I was able to get closer to the tree and see about 6 feet beneath the surface of the ground at how deeply rooted this tree was into the soil. By all appearances, this was a very health tree.

As I stood back and took in "the big picture" of the beauty of this tree, it literally fell over dead.

DEAD!
...and I woke up.
...very disturbed by the dream.

I was telling Brad and the kids about my dream tonight after church. As I was telling them the details, I was reminded of Psalm One. So I grabbed my bible and read. It is about a tree (of sorts!)

Psalm 1

How blessed is the man who does not walk
in the counsel of the wicked,
nor stand in the path of sinners,

nor sit in the seat of scoffers!

But his delight is in the law of the Lord,

and in His law he meditates day and night.

He will be like a tree
firmly planted by streams of water,
which yield its fruit in its season

and its leaf does not wither;

And in whatever he does, he prospers.

The wicked are not so,

but they are like chaff which the wind drives away.

Therefore, the wicked will not stand in the judgment.

Nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous.

For the Lord knows the way of the righteous,

But the way of the wicked will perish.

So are there any "Jospehs" in my group of friends that want to take a stab at the meaning of that one??

I prefer the dreams when I am swimming with the dolphins!

Blessings,
Dawn

Hi Dawn,

I have some thoughts on this dream, but I am going to pray for clarity. If Our Father gives me clarity and I feel like He is leading me to tell you, then I will tell you. {{{hugs}}}

You said the tree appeared to be healthy, but it fell over dead. Obviously the roots (the part you couldn't see beneath the soil) were rotten. Perhaps something or someone who appears to be good is really rotten underneath?

I am no "joseph", but I do feel in my spirit that this was NOT just a dream and had a lot to do with the structure of family, church and personal life.

It is like the house that looks stable, but has cracks in the foundation. Without any seeming fault, the first trauma or storm that tests the house will reveal its lack of strong footing.

Dawn,

I am stumped(ha-ha) by your dream. I can't understand if the root system was so wide AND deep and the leaves were healthy why the falling over dead.

What I will say is in reading Psalms 1 the part that spoke to me over & over is "nor stand in the path of sinners". I get a vision of the path of the sinner decaying the root system. It's almost as if the mamouth tree is a child of God who has stubbled onto the wrong path and has stood there too
long so the soil on this path is decaying its root system. ?
Not sure, still stumped.

Hi Dawn,

That was a very interesting dream. I am not a dream interpreter but I did have some observations.

I am not sure what the tree represents but healthy trees just don't die like that in the natural. If you hadn't seen the elaborate root system one would think that it fell over because its roots were dead. This was not the case.

In Matthew 21 Jesus curses the fig tree and the disciples were amazed that it withered so quickly.
This was in connection to what things they could do if they would have faith. I believe the story is in Mark, also.

I pray that the LORD would show you what the dream represents. I would be interested to hear what you find out.

Love,

Sandy

Matthew 21

18 Now in the morning, when He was returning to the city, He became hungry.

19 Seeing a lone fig tree by the road, He came to it and found nothing on it except leaves only; and He said to it, "No longer shall there ever be any fruit from you." And at once the fig tree withered.

20 Seeing this, the disciples were amazed and asked, "How did the fig tree wither all at once?"

21 And Jesus answered and said to them, "Truly I say to you, if you have faith and do not doubt, you will not only do what was done to the fig tree, but even if you say to this mountain, `Be taken up and cast into the sea,' it will happen.

22 "And all things you ask in prayer, believing, you will receive."

Sandy,
Very interesting! I had forgot about that tree story!

I guess in terms of our "Secrets of the Vine" Bible Study, that would be the ultimate scourging in the discipline category.

It would not qualify as "pruning" as Jesus said this tree would never bear fruit again.

Also, in terms of the Tues bible study I am taking with the women at church this would also paint a picture of praying for the complete restoration of something / someone that seems far gone. "Far be it for me to sin against God by failing to pray for you..."

These are all interesting thoughts in terms of the current studies I am taking. I just wish I knew for CERTAIN what the dream meant.

I guess I can't go wrong in not knowing because in the process I can be praying for complete restoration (whether it be family, church or relationships).

I can be praying for those (and checking myself as well) about areas of discipline that may be leading to a scourging.

That was one thing I felt very adamant in my dream...IT WAS A WARNING. This is not a done deal, but something that can be prevented.

So I guess prayer on all fronts might be the most prudent path to take.

Thanks for bringing this passage up!!

Love, Dawn

Another interesting tree/root passage that has crossed my mind:

Matthew 3

9 and do not suppose that you can say to yourselves, `We have Abraham for our father'; for I say to you that from these stones God is able to raise up children to Abraham.

10 "The axe is already laid at the root of the trees; therefore every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.

11 "As for me, I baptize you with water for repentance, but He who is coming after me is mightier than I, and I am not fit to remove His sandals; He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.

12 "His winnowing fork is in His hand, and He will thoroughly clear His threshing floor; and He will gather His wheat into the barn, but He will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire."
